FOR London vet Daniel Ryan, it’s been a very, very long time between drinks, so to speak. A lacklustre medical career is doing little to ease the pain of a bitter failed marriage and the ensuing frustration of a stagnant lovelife. Desperate to break this dry spell once and for all, the good English doctor decides on a booze-fuelled whim to up stumps and relocate to the opposite side of the world — only to arrive, as fate would have it, in rural Australia in the midst of the region’s worst-ever drought. Will Dr Dan’s crippling thirst finally be slaked in the arms of his new neighbour, Lily, or is he destined instead to stay forever parched?
Parched is the first novel by English-born, Australian-based veterinarian and writer Dr Julie Kendall and is set in a location not unlike her own adopted patch of farmland in rural Victoria.
